உயிர்மை சஞ்சிகையின் மார்ச் 2026 இதழில் அனுஜா பிரகாஷும் நானும் தமிழாக்கிய அழகு சுப்பிரமணியத்தின் ‘Big Girl’ என்ற கதை, ‘பெரிய பிள்ளை,’ வெளியிடப் பட்டுள்ளது.

இந்தக் கதையின் ஆங்கில மூலம், 1964ஆம் ஆண்டில் வெளியிடப்பட்ட அதே பெயருடனான சிறுகதைத் தொகுப்பில் இடம் பெற்றது. 2018இல் இந்தத் தொகுப்பு பெரேரா-ஹூசெயின் நிறுவனத்தால் மீள்பதிப்பு செய்யப் பட்டது.

எங்களால் தமிழாக்கப் பட்ட வேறு சில அழகு சுப்பிரமணியம் கதைகளும் விரைவில் வெளிவர உள்ளன.

அழகு சுப்பிரமணியம் இலங்கையைப் பூர்வீகமாகக் கொண்ட உலகரீதியில் சிறந்து விளங்கிய ஆங்கில எழுத்தாளர்களில் முதல்வர். மேற்கொண்டு அவரைப் பற்றி அறிய:

The March 2026 issue of the Tamil literary magazine, ‘Uyirmai’ has published a Tamil translation of renowned Sri Lankan English writer Alagu Subramaniam‘s short story, ‘The Big Girl’ (co-translated by Anuja Prakash and me)

The English original appeared as part of the collection, with the same title, published in 1964. In 2018, Perera-Hussein issued a reprint.

A few more translations of Alagu Subramaniam stories will appear over the next few months.

Alagu Subramaniam is the pioneer among English writers of Sri Lankan origin who found great success at the highest levels of English literature in the west. To learn more about him:
